KRP was an "easy listening" station before the format change. Johnny's penultimate line before the scratch was "Well, it's goodbye to the elevator music" as he peeled a record off a turntable, breaking it in half in the process.

I may be confusing two episodes — the pilot and the one where he quit to take back his old LA job, then returned but got stuck with the graveyard shift and used the air name Heavy Early — but I think the record he scratched might've been the Cincinnati Tabernacle Choir's version of "You're Having My Baby."
