8. So the older cat brings in a mouse......
The young dog goes over and chases the cat. After a brief negotiation under the dining room table, the dog emerges with the mouse and goes to his den on the stair landing. My daughter and I follow him, and he is sitting there with the mouse running back and forth behind him. I try to grab the mouse, but I'm a little mouse shy. The mouse runs down the side of the stairs behind the dog pen. We crawl into the dog pen with a flashlight and locate the mouse, now running back and forth between the pen and the wall. Of course the dog is right beside us checking out the action. I go and get a plastic bag to cover my hand and come back. My hand is just a tad too thick to go far enough past the wires of the pen. I drop the bag over the mouse and my daughter tries. She gets her hand through, but the mouse, which we have both been watching, is gone. I look under the dog pen and find only a mummified frog. I don't even want to think about the frog. The dog and the little bitey cat start chasing something around in the office on the other side of the house. The dog emerges with the mouse (I hope it's the same mouse although I still can't figure out how it got from here to there so fast), trots into the living room and releases the mouse. The mouse runs under the couch and vanishes once again.

Sometimes I wish I drank.
