I got into a conversation with a friend yesterday and she was talking about a situation in which she felt very strong feelings of envy. But she could not identify what those feelings were. I told her it sounded like envy and she said, yes, that is what it was, and how come she could not identify it as envy?

I told her that I thought it was because envy is an entirely hateful state and no one really ever cops to having envy.
