105. Actually the cops present at the protests we've held
Edited on Sat Sep-29-07 01:06 PM by hippywife
here have all been very respectful except one guy who was a macho ass. When Cheney was here a few years back speaking at a dinner that was a fundraiser for Tom Coburn, some of our group was protesting on the sidewalk directly in front of the hotel he was in, while the rest of the group was on the side walk across the street facing the hotel. The Secret Service came out in a real snit and told the folks directly in front of the hotel they were to move across the street or they would have them arrested. They refused and when the SS tried to get the Tulsa Police to arrest them, the mounted officers told them no. They told the SS that the protesters know their rights and they were within them as they were on public easement.

They have always been very nice to us and even assisted some of our group when some rednecks became violent at one of our corner protests. We've always communicated with them exactly what we were going to do and have handled ourselves accordingly, and they have appreciated that even showing up to make sure we were safe from any undue actions of passersby.

Even during acts of civil disobedience, they have been courteous while arresting those who participated.
