27. That is indeed honorable
But you miss the point of politics.

Politics is all about image of the person running. And politicians are all ways running. While your mission (to protect Democracy) is noble and honorable, it is not the same mission of your Senators (congress critters, mayors, etc.) unless doing so helps them in some way win the next election.

Even if most of the country is still split as to who they wanted as President, MOST of the country has decided that Bush won. To try to invalidate that point will cause MOST of the country to deride that person as somebody opposing the will of the people. And Senator's are high profile targets. They don't have the advantage of being gerrymandered into a particular Republican or Democrat district. They're at the mercy of the ENTIRE state. And as this election just saw, Democrat senators were elected in Red states, and Repub senators were elected in Blue States, so you just can't trust the color of your state any more to be for you.

Sorry to be a wet blanket... but that's the chilling reality.
