Sic means literally, "intentionally so written" so people reading will not think it's a mistake on the part of the publisher, that it is replicating how it was originally written/spoken.

I know it's intentional - I just like seeing them called on it. I should've used the sarcasm button :D The only reason why they do this is that "Democrat" polls more negatively than "Democratic" in their focus groups. But Bush, er, doesn't listen to polls ;)
