Palin: Say in ain't so, Joe

This is just an observation, but at the beginning of the debate, Sarah Palin asked Joe Biden for permission to call him Joe. My first thought was that she wanted to be able to be as familiar with him as she had been with Charlie Gibson, repeating his name frequently. I figured it was a verbal tick that she didn't want to be later accused of being glib for using. But then she never called him Joe. Not once as far as I recall, except for that one time when she said "Say it ain't so, Joe," a reference to the White Sox scandal if I am not mistaken.

Did Sarah Palin ask permission to call Senator Biden by his first name just so she could use that stupid line?
