We all have concerns about the big picture, but you can only be effective in the picture you exist in. Do small things well - they do add up. Send you $5 or whatever, get the next person to do the same - there! you doubled your effort and effect and so on. Yeah there are tens of thousands in crisis, but right in your community there are folks who have needed help for much longer and will for longer still...

Take a break from the bad news. Advice often given to caretakers applies to all who care: If you don't take care of yourself what good will you be to those you care for?
