a crank and just about everything else under the sun, because he refused to back down from the reality of the whole affair. While the ringleaders were off relatively scott-free, Butler raised a fuss about the whole thing, saying they tried to enlist him in overthrowing the government. He was seen as "nuts", but he never backed down.

Smedley, awarded 2 Medals of Honor while in the USMC, had decided that previous administrations had sacrificed his Marines in an attempt to corner the banana market, hence his famous "War is a Racket".

There are newsreels of him at a desk exposing the whole affair, but he was muted over a short period of time.
