do we consider "jew" a dirty word?
do we consider "hindu" a dirty word?
do we consider "buddhist" a dirty word?
do we consider "christian" a dirty word?

I reject your premise on its face. I am proud to have known and to know the remarkable muslims in my life. I am not muslim but these are a great and proud people. There is no shame, nor should there ever be, to be muslim. Anyone who suggests so has demeaned himself.
