Who's mad about the Senate's version of the stimulus bill? Architects
With Barack Obama campaigning in Florida today for his economic stimulus package, the Senate version of the bill is taking a verbal pounding from at least one interest group that previously had been on the President's side--the Washington, D.C.-based American Institute of Architects.

The AIA, which had offered qualified support for the House version of the bill, is clearly ticked off about its Senate counterpart, which cuts funding for school construction and making federal buildings more energy-efficient.

Obviously, the AIA is representing the financial interests of its members, many of whom are having tough times because of the downturn in construction. But it's also standing up for the sound notion that the stimulus package should leave a long-term legacy comparable to the public works projects of Franklin Roosevelt's New Deal, an idea I've boosted on this blog before.
