Birmingham's first black mayor backing Sparks

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Birmingham's first black mayor, Richard Arrington, says he will support state Agriculture Commissioner Ron Sparks for governor rather than U.S. Rep. Artur Davis, who is trying to become Alabama's first black governor.

I suspect it's because Sparks is more liberal than Davis. I think it would be cool as hell for Alabama to elect a black governor, but Davis has disappointed me too many times.

That being said, I fully expect Davis to win the nomination, and if so, I will vote for him against any candidate the Republicans have to offer.
