5. I started out at my first gay bar
In the late 70's. My idea of a cool and hip thing to wear was a tee-shirt that said 'Disco Sucks'. Of course disco was sacred at the time. So that about says it. I've been just as on top of gay sensibilities ever since!
I grew up in an area where I met all kinds of gay people as I grew up. There was no sterotype. From macho men to the Queens of the Self Designed Furniture....lesbians, old and young. Gay folk of color, from other countries. Famous, famous people, rich people, poor people. So I was never presented with a sterotype and told it was a template. This has been, as Mr Monk would say, a blessing and a curse.
