You need a gateway program that acts as a POP server and retrieves individual messages from hotmail for you. There are several of these, and I can neither recommend nor not recommend any of them individually since I don't use hotmail. (I do the same thing with Yahoo's mail.) But, it'll work.

You basically install the program and leave it running for when you access mail. In T-Bird, you'll create a new account, and the POP server will be 127.0.0.1 (your local host). This tells T-Bird to check any active servers at that IP, and with the POP gateway running on your machine, it'll find it. The program itself does the rest.

Here's a link to one I found with a quick google search that's freeware. Again, I know nothing about it, so you might want to do some research into it.

One thing I will mention is that these programs that do this for some reason can interfere with (disable) one of your USB ports. Be aware of that. I tore apart a joystick thinking it was broken when in fact it was YahooPOPs messing up the port.
