As a Taoist, I suggest that you visualize this light coming forth from the Nothingness. By doing this, you will reflect on the creation of the Universe and recognize that your self is a part of the whole. This will alleviate whatever guilt you may have in feeling that you are only helping yourself. Another very good visualization is to imagine a lake of water. As your mind calms, the ripples on the surface of the water will dissipate. Once all thought is gone, you will be able to peer into the abyss.

As Nietzsche said, "when you look into the abyss, the abyss looks into you."
