20th Anniversary Tennessee Williams/New Orleans Literary Festival - Making of Presidents Panel

The Making Of The Presidents: Bringing History Alive On The Page

Three historians who have written about widely differing aspects of the American presidency — from biographies of Jimmy Carter and Martha Washington to an account of Thomas Jefferson’s role in eradicating pirates on “the shores of Tripoli” — discuss the process of making historical figures come to life. This panel will also examine the creative limits imposed by working with facts and documents (no imagined dialogue allowed!) before moving on to a wide-ranging discussion of the powers of the president and those who surround him. Panelists: Patricia Brady, Douglas Brinkley, and Richard Zacks. Moderator: Michael A. Ross. Bourbon Orleans Ballroom
