14. I got two old Public Enemy
disks on vinyl? ( I got offered 35 bucks for 'Takes a Nation...) Yeah and Chuck hangs with Jello Biafra...yeah so what...I used to drum in a punk band.

So OK...it's not OG, it's not just Rap, it's not Gangsta Rap, it's not hip-hop, but might be, he's not Christian rap, but it's definitely not all that other corporate gangsta rap...it's indy rap, fuck whatever...

We can play this game with metal, techno or punk as well -- just because fans think something about individual artists, doesn't necessarily mean that the genre is any good.

It's like folk music -- most of the people who follow that 'genre' seem to be taken aback when you point out that a lot of folk-ie stuff is kinda traditional conservative values where the politico stuff is a small marginalized element of a MUCH LARGER marketing scheme.

If anything those marginalized independent elements legitimize the worst excess of the whole genre. How to separate out what 'System of a Down' is trying to get across in a sea of reactionary metalhead NOISE? Sounds the same to most ears -- but it's the fans that will surely point out the difference, largely for their own credibilty.
