What is with George Allen?

I never thought a guy could implode like that. He went from being a presidential contender to being a guy who would be lucky to keep his senate seat. And, his is not a case where his state is absolutely sick of him - like Lieberman, Santorum and Conrad Burns - or his challenge was a difficult one to begin with, such as when Daschle lost to Thune. Allen has just flat out imploded. It is weird to watch.

The guy has some skeletons in his closet, no doubt, but it never hurt him before. He's not the smartest guy around, but that has usually helped him if anything. You would think that after a life in politics he would be more savvy and disciplined than this. But the "Macaca" thing was mind-blowingly stupid, I never realized how much so until I watched the clip. It was shocking how dumb it was for him to do that. Then his reaction to his Jewish heritage, very stupefying. It's odd to see this guy go down in flames like this. I definitely have no love lost for him or anything, but I would have never thought this was going to happen.
