The United Auto Workers, Farm Labor Organizing Committee, Rainbow Push and some clergy are announcing today that they are withdrawing hundreds of millions of dollars from Chase Bank. It’s a protest against JP Morgan Chase’s refusal to declare a two-year moratorium on foreclosures in Michigan and the bank’s continuing ties with RJ Reynolds Corp. UAW President Bob King says Chase could make a huge difference to help unemployed homeowners in Michigan and unpaid farm workers in the Carolinas if the banks would suspend foreclosures and pressure RJ Reynolds to do the right thing by farm workers. The UAW and community leaders in Michigan also want Michigan Democratic Congressman John Conyers to hold hearings on the failure of Chase and other banks to effectively implement federal programs to help keep people in their homes.
