23. One area where it has helped women in China
is that the families that do have girls treat them very well. In the past, if a family had 10 kids - 5 boys and 5 girls, the 5 boys would get all the focus of the family for education, money for college, etc. (you have to pay to go to high school & lower schools in China)

Now, if a family has one child and it is a girl, the whole family will focus on that one child.

So, you will find a lot of professional career-oriented women in China that are in their 20s and 30s - doctors, scientists, engineers, rising business executives, etc. - that will not give up their careers when they have a baby. And, you'll also find that married men in China do a lot more housework than married men in the US (except men that have Chinese wives here...)
