The investigation was triggered when Spitzer moved more than $10,000 from one account to another. This set off red flags at the IRS that began the investigation. This isn't selective as this is a law used to monitor the moving of large amounts of cash for things like drug deals or weapons purchases or even high priced hookers. The initial probe was that Spitzer was on the take and moving the money around, and low and behold, the wiretaps showed it was the worlds oldest profession he was investing in. It appears the other Clients were caught in the web...unlucky bastards...and it'll be interesting to see if they or the club is prosecuted.
