7. Whether it's a big issue or not, it deserves discussion
And Tweety is one of the few discussing it. Racism was openly virulent and intense only a few decades ago. I remember the uproar that occurred all over the southern United States in 1967 when Sammy Davis Jr. gave Nancy Sinatra a kiss on the cheek on television on a variety show. That racism didn't just magically disappear. I'm sure Tweety remembers how a lot of racist Democrats in the south became Republicans after Nixon's southern strategy and the strategies of succeeding Republican candidates. Maybe some Republicans hate Obama for other reasons than his race. But is the election of a black man to the Presidency the new version of that daring kiss on the cheek that Sammy Davis Jr. made on television four decades ago and that went over the line for a lot of people entrenched in their old racial prejudices?
