7. no, they DIDN'T adjust the tables
but we still got the extra. Taxable income of $6,000 in 2001 gave you a tax bill of $904. Minus the $300 they already sent you is a net of $604. In 2002, taxable income of $6,000 gave you a tax bill of $604. People got confused by that (and some people got on the radio and wrote articles saying that there was not really a refund, spreading more confusion), because their tax bill did not go down in 2001. It did though, but they just got the refund in July of 2001 instead of March of 2002.
