Being a fan of diversity, and recognizing that we are in this country diverse (hello...we are a melting pot here) I started checking out some things ; I posted a calendar earlier here, and that is what prompted me to look into this all further.

June 2007 came up as this (at the calendar listed, see below though):
Gay and Lesbian Pride Month. On June 11, 1999, President Clinton issued a presidential proclamation designating June as Gay and Lesbian Pride Month.

Now as someone who reads Presidential Proclamations I know it can be a tradition to carry them year to year - ESPECIALLY if the congress has passed a joint resolution stating such (Like Father's day for example). Said resolutions are noted in the proclamation - example: http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2005/06/20050616-8.html

But it seems it does not matter if the congress is involved at all:

Congressman Charles Rangel recognized several African American performing artists in June, Black Music Month, promoting legislation he has introduced in Congress honoring their contributions to music and to the struggle for civil rights. Black Music Month was initiated by President Carter in 1979. (Note - Carter did this without the congress)

And that month is still celebrated to this day and proclaimed as such year after year.

Here is a list of bush proclamations during his entire term, notice anything missing in June?

That's right - Gay and Lesbian Pride Month. The last one was in 2000, under Clinton.

Go figure.
