Faced with the collapse of private pension, health care and financing systems, Obama will have every reason to use his mandate to socialize medicine, pensions and many other aspects of US economic life.

National health insurance gives us a healthier and more flexible workforce. People can change jobs, quit their job, volunteer for a cause for a time, and never have to worry about not being insured.

No doubt that national health insurance is only part of the solution. The other part is bringing health care costs under control, rationing more expensive and less cost-effective treatments, and changing the way the drug industry gets paid. If Obama can tackle all of that, I'll be extremely impressed.
