3. Looks like a trial balloon to me

See what kind of response the usual suspects issue. If Rush and Drudge and Hannity and the rest of the pack of jackals let this go by peacefully, this could turn out to be true. But if they get into full-throated howl about "bailouts" or "socialism" or something else, then the unnamed aide just re-submerges back to obscurity.
