strategic voting, or voting against candidates instead of for them.

Australia also has some other differences in the make-up of its congressional body system that help IRV be more successful than it is here, too, I think. I'm pretty sure it's not set up exactly like our Senate and Congress. (Although I might be wrong there. I'm not an expert on Australia. :) )
