We can make good guesses and identify apparent correlations but the actual cause or causes continue to elude us.

There are probably genetic components, smoking certainly doesn't help but only increases the likelihood by about 1/3, there are innumerable environmental factors, and so on...

Personally, considering how frequently we see anomalies such as the Japanese, and after much personal experience, I lean toward stress, quality of food, and living in a toxic environment as the major culprits (Americans are working themselves to death for nothing other than to make other people rich). But here we are, yet again, being told by various "experts" with their own agenda that we should do this, stop that, and buy this product to reduce our chances of getting what is most likely inevitable or impossible depending on the individual.

It's as if they believe that saying "we just don't know" would eliminate their so-called authority.

Come to think of it, it would, wouldn't it?
