mass Democratic voters sitting the election out to "teach someone a lesson"?

I thought it was more a combination of a less enthusiastic Democratic base vs. a more energized right-wing base and misguided Independents and moderates switching from D to R from '08 to '10. If anyone has any convincing evidence that it was indeed a mass of strong Democrats sitting out the '10 elections in WI with the purpose of punishing Democrats and electing Walker and Johnson in WI, I'd be interested in seeing it. That whole meme has been pounded into the ground by a certain faction on this site, and it's rather tiresome.
