7. Actually, the pollution here isn't that bad.
Right now, the majority of our pollution is from the smoke blowing due south, and we're due south of many of those same fires.

The reference to a "dome" was the former high-pressure ridge that was in place for months up until TS Lee. When that ridge moved to the east, we had "high" hopes that Lee would steer our way. No such luck. In Houston, I could see and even watch some of the outer edge clouds going by. They just weren't thunderstorms, so no rain. We did get a break in the heat, though. Lee has also been partially blamed for the fires in how it steered a dry cold front through the state.

You ought to read Dr. Jeff Masters' weather blog and stay informed on this stuff :)
