I always figure if they spend it on beer or something else it must be something they need at the time. Who am I to determine what that might be or even pretend to know what is best for them?

I give them food if I have it but if I only have cash it is given without rules. Good for you, you took it a step farther than that and probably made him feel really good to have someone to share with.

My oldest son has been going through early adulthood making all kinds of changes as he moves through. He was always one who thought it was wasteful to give someone money not knowing what they would use it for. A few months ago someone stopped us and I had no cash. He stepped in and gave the guy 5 bucks. Not a word, I just smiled. He is a kind young man. He has changed again and moved along in his path. Compassion can't be denied for very long, if you have it you use it eventually.
