15. In my case, it was just ignorance
Due to dinner every week with my very Republican in-laws (I was Republican in my 20s). I hadn't had enough time at that point to experience reality. My attitude was, "Hey, I work hard, why should my hard-earned money go to welfare slackers?". Ugh. Makes me shudder with shame now. My saving grace was that 1) I'm open minded, 2) and that I came upon tough luck and hard times and was faced with a broken social system. It didn't MATTER that I worked hard, harder than anyone else on the job, that I had a great work ethic. Ah, but this is a whole other topic.
