i've not made a public announcement on DU about who i prefer. i've made a little bit of noise about who i don't prefer, i guess--very little, as i'm not into the current voque of bashing (i'm not a bashing-basher either--i kind of expect flames to fly here. i'm just thrilled to be a part of the american public who can name the candidates for the dem nomination! ;-) )
anyway, as i said, i'm not in dean's camp, but i have a now voting age nephew who leans left, but doesn't really get into politics. probably, if i just told him to back a certain candidate, he would, because he generally trusts me to know what is going on. i saw him the other day, and told him he should check out dean, because alot of people his age seem to really like him. i did mention that dean was not my man (and i did tell him my preference.) he wrote down dean's name, and said he'd check it out.
i just think that being politcally involved is cool, and i'd love to see my nephew get involved in the importance of his role in our democracy. 'course, if he gets all on fire, i'll have to enumerate the merits of my guy, but even so, i would welcome the discussion.

Keep talking to your nephew about politics. Eventually he'll understand the importance of being involved.

2. Whether you do or don't prefer Dean, it will be |

narrowed down to one candidate, which we will all vote for hopefully, even if he's not our first choice, so it's fine to let your nephew look over different candidates.

an extension of the "Anybody but Bush" theme, my brother and I had a little contest going...come up with the most offensive candidate you'd vote for over Bush. Let me say, that some pretty ugly names were brought up. Anybody to get the shrub pruned.

and, oh my! we could play it at our house! in fact, i think i'm going to introduce it.
LOL!! "spongebob squarepants, or bush?" "the green goblin or bush?" "micheal moore or bush?" "charleton heston or bush?" "daddy bush or bush jr.?" "reagan or bush?" "a werewolf of london or bush?" "ashcroft or bush?" "bush or cheney?" "bush or hannity?"
hmm...maybe not so funny...
there are no people who would vote for bush in my immediate or extended family.

4. I talk to youngsters about politics every chance I get, |
|
though that isn't often enough. Generally speaking, they are very open to new ideas, and it feels good to hit them with some naked truth. In the same vein, all too often they have been pulled to the right by one or two people in their lives, and I am more than happy to show them that there are other, more honest ways to look at things.

5. It's great Dean is motivating young people so far before the election. |
|
I hope they are still motivated 14 months from now.

7. I went tabling for Dean at a street fair today... |

with other people from our meet-ups. The best spokesperson for Dean was a 19 yr. old DUer. I was very impressed and humbled. I'm trying not to stumble over myself (I'm somewhat shy and a disaster at public speaking), and he's just tirelessly reeling them in. It was a great day!

I LOVE getting people to support Howard Dean. At first it was very intimidating, knowing that a good chunk of these people would get their first impression of Dean through you. The more I talked with people about Dean the more I'd became excited over the man. That correlated my answers and made it easier to communicate them.
