One could realistically call this the lowest point in America's history |
|
think about it. and how fortunate we all are to see it.
there's no way from here but up, i hope.

5. I thought the Nixon administration was the lowest |
|
and that I'd never see the country or a president brought down lower than that... how wrong I was.
But unlike mopaul I think it will go lower still. We haven't hit bottom, not by a long shot. The worst is yet to come.

4. Don't want to spread unnecessary pessimism... |

... but it can go lower--and probably will--before it gets better.
We've only had seven months of this Congress. They can get into a lot more mischief in their allotted time. They don't even need excuses such as 9/11 any longer. And they have enough support from conservative Democrats that everything they do will be branded as "bipartisan."
Just one more attack in this country, even a small one, will have them whipping out the Reichstag rules in a heartbeat.... *sigh*

6. Maybe It Was A Little Earlier |
|
For me the lowest point in our history was the hour in which the right wing fanatic mobs attacked the polling places in Miami, intent on and successful at disrupting the counting of legitimate votes cast in the most important election our nation holds. It was the moment of what I still think may play out to be the fatal assault on our democracy.

7. Let's not do comparisons... |
|
Or maybe something like the massacre at Wounded Knee has good chances of winning as well...
I do agree that it can/will get much worse before it gets better. I think a lot of the Dems are refusing to see the birth of fascism for what it is and are still trying to compromise, or are themselves feeding at the trough. I just don't understand...
Sometimes I feel like I should never vote for ANYONE who uses the words "War on Terror" or "Spread Freedom/Democracy" without adding the words "so called" in front of it. But on the other hand, I will vote for a used piece of bubble gum before I would vote for Smirky.
AND, on the other other hand, will our votes ever count?
Argh...

8. I'm afraid it will go lower. Things we can count on happening are: |
|
Bush will get Roberts in the Supreme Court and at least 2 Reich Wing Republicans before he is out of office. This alone will cause decades of problems for our country. I also think the strength and influence of the radical Christo-Fascists will grow in Congress and wreak havoc there as well. Corporate power, with all branches of the government in their pocket, will continue to dominate our lives and we will see environmental protections overturned and pollution levels rise dramatically. It will also be a dismal time for the American worker as corporations continue to downgrade wages and benefits and good job availability in this country. We are headed down a slippery slope where we are becoming a third world nation for 85% of our citizens.

10. First they have to take us back to the so-called "Gilded Age" |
|
of the late 19th Century, with no anti-trust laws, social darwinism, rampant sweatshops, child labor, the courts acting at the service of the giant corporations to strike down any attempts to regulate them, and with the police and the military suppressing any attempt to organize against the government and its corporate masters.
The only difference this time around is that it will be on a global scale, with bloody external wars and internal chaos and violence from the discontented.
I hope it doesn't come to pass.
