14. Sorry to hear you have it!
Perhaps it's punishment for going out on a date without a proper Christian chaperone to make sure you didn't touch each other or anything else untoward and immoral.

3. flowers
One day last week I was given flowers by several different people. On one, I literally hit the jackpot and was given hundreds of flowers in my favorite color, purple.

Makes me feel so good.

8. Oooh.... fun! Ever picked out a live tree while it was SNOWING?
It's fun, but difficult because ALL the trees look so pretty with a dusting of snow on all the branches.

10. No
It doesn't seem to snow much in southern New England until January usually. I think we waded through some mucky slush last year though.

9. Couple of things
On the domestic front, I've replaced nearly all the 50 yo plumbing in the house. What a pain. x(

On the career front, I've decided to go to film school come January. I'm going to learn how to make documentaries. I'm looking forward to this. I've always had an interest in film, but never did anything about it. I certainly never considered it to be a legitimate career path... still may not be. But, it will be something I'll enjoy.

To finance my classes, I'm gunning for at least some temp work at UNC.

That sounds like fun. I don't know anything about cinamatography. What made you decide on that, GOP?

I took a couple of film classes way back when, when I got my BA. I'm looking forward to getting to know the film community here, taking the classes through the continuing ed dept at Duke. They're relatively cheap.

edit: Yes, I need a cinamatographer. There are several subjects around here that deserve a documentary.

15. I don't know how I came upon cinematography.
I've always been a visual person, and I can really appreciate a beautiful movie, even if the story leaves something to be desired.

I did love the look of Once Upon a Time in Mexico. Very vivid and lush colors. I guess it's the digital technology.

I want to learn some more about digital.

24. that I don't know, but this I do
If you go to film school, there are two routes to go.

1. You can either make a great short film - but if you decide to go this route you must go all the way. I recommend keeping it short and making it spectacular so you don't run out of money. The film school of course will give you some material, but usually you'll pay some out of pocket. If this is what you decide to do make sure you have enough resources to get the film completed, with sound, credits, and copies that you can distribute.

2. Some people don't necessarily want to direct or make a film - if this is the case - MAKE SURE YOU GET AN INTERNSHIP.

Everyone I knew in film school who got an internship in their last year ended up working in some capacity in the business. One of them went on to produce American Beauty and Six Feet Under.

I neither completed my film nor got an internship, and thus I work at an insurance company while I hack away at screenplays - with a lot of life detours along the way.

I read all the time tho about young film students coming out of school with a super film that gets them notice and work. Film school is also an amazingly fun time - it's like going to film camp.

13. I'm going to bake banana bread today
and sweet-potato pie (and probably meringues, to use up the extra egg whites) tomorrow.

Exciting, I know. But I got a shiny new Kitchenaid mixer for my birthday (two months ago) and it sat in the box for a good month before I used it. Making up for lost time, I guess...

29. Gags?
I mean there's a few scenes/story lines that involve some physical comedy and site gags, but I wouldn't say it was overdone. If you like Britcom, if you liked 4 Weddings and a Funeral, this is the flick to see. Probably the only thing that bugged me was two different instances of making fun of fat chicks, but then this is from the screenwriter of Bridget Jones's Diary.

30. First real snow of the winter here
I don't think I want to drive off this hill and I really don't have anyplace I have to go. I'm going go out and shovel/sweep the steps and then play in the backyard with the dogs (they love the snow). Then I'm going to cook a big pot of butter beans and eat some later with rice and corn sticks. I'll probably have a fire tonight and finish reading my latest Brit. mystery. Not very exciting but it's OK with me.
