Does anyone know how much a care nurse would cost ?
I am talking about a nurse or someone that could come to the house and take care of my mom - someone who's has patience. I have patience but if I hear my stepdad yell at her , I am gonna go off. My mom is very emotional because of the medicine that she is on and he is being stupid already. She does'nt need anyone around her that does not understand what she feels. She needs someone who gives her the medicine as scheduled not what he thinks. Just follow the damn schedule - its not hard. If she says her bathwater is cold , make it warmer for her - damn. I can take care of her by myself.

1. They're expensive. Check into your local social service
organization. Sometimes they have programs to help with situations like this.

Good luck.

2. Talk to social services
In my county, senior services has advocates that will help identify resources. Home care workers are funded to see people a certain number of times per week. That's partially funded through the state.

3. they do tend to be expensive
and the more you need them to do, the more they cost, especially if it's a 24/7 prospect.
Check with social services at the hospital and also contact VNS (Visiting Nurse Services) The VNS won't do bathing or anything, but they work very closely with a lot of the in-home care services.
Sorry your mom is not well.

4. If your Mom is 60
the Agency on Aging has services for adults 60 and over. Google it for the office nearest you(there's a state map on the site) and call them. They should be able to set you up with temporary in-home help.(I work for them in another state).

5. Very expensive.
After my mom had a devastating stroke, we hire a nurse and also a home health service. The nurse was someone who had taken care of mom during her stay in the nursing home. We wanted to get her out of there and home, so the nurse quit her job and came to work for us. $17/hr plus workman's comp and social security and all that stuff.
Mom needed to be lifted..she could not walk or stand. She need a lot of care with her medications.
She lived for about 3 years and it cost us over $100,000 but it was worth it.

Contact the social worker at the hospital and they will have some less expensive alternatives for you.

Good luck. Your mom is lucky to have you. And things WILL settle down and not be so frightening and stressful.

6. you might be able to get paid to care for her
I live in NC too and I know this is a program they have because a friend of mine got paid by DSS to care for her mom. She had a lot of kids so it helped her, as part of her income. She was doing it anyway but this helped her bring in more money. My aunt and I would have been able to get paid to take care of my grandmother but my aunt didn't want to bother with the paperwork. I don't know how much money it is but it is some kind of aid program they have. They probably have other stuff too, like care nurses that can come out. I would definitely call up DSS and see what they have to offer.
