My favorite meal after an intensive workout: a POUND of roast beef.
Edited on Tue Jan-30-07 12:03 AM by seawolf
Cooked medium to medium-well with spices for extra flavor.

Anyone else have something they particularly like after they've really been busting ass at the gym?

Edit: Wound up being 2/3 pound. Couldn't trim enough fat off the last third to keep from squicking me out. Blast it.

1. Are you kidding?
:wow:

Hey, I work out hard, too. Cycle, lift weights, the works, but dang.....nope, I couldn't eat a pound (or even 2/3 lb) of beef.

A pound of cookies, maybe...:D lol.

3. I'm 6'2," 250 pounds.
Even with 22% body fat, 2/3 pound of beef isn't much trouble for me, especially when the only thing I had since breakfast was a bowl of soup.

scramble a few eggs, toss in some vegetables, then add a little soy sauce for good measure. Good stuff. Oh yeah, nonfat cooking spray is a must.

4. Sounds good.
Homemade fried rice probably tastes better than any sort of Chinese takeout.

14. I work out in the early morning ...
I have a Nitro-Tech shake driving into work, then a bowl of cereal and a glass of juice.

But I sure as hell could go for some roast beef after a workout. Men like us gotta eat.

17. Whatever beans I have around - kidney beans, pinto beans, black beans, chili beans.
I don't make a sauce. I just mix the rice with the undrained beans and heat it up in a saucepan.

I'd love to have a recipe for "real" rice and beans, if you have one.

19. Why go to the gym in the first place?
You are consuming about 750 calories in just that one serving.

Frankly, you'd be better off not going to the gym and eating a junior wopper.

20. Different things. I make a chocolate treat that I keep in the fridge. It has a
cup and a half of rolled oats that I coat in 1 tbl melted Smart Balance or Earth Balance and roast in the oven. After those cool I add a 2 cups of chopped walnuts, and two cups of different dried fruit (usually blueberries and cherries from Trader Joe's). I melt one of those pound plus dark chocolate bars from Trader Joe's (or about a pound of any good dark chocolate) in the microwave and mix it all together. I drop blobs onto cookie sheets then keep them in a bag in the fridge once they've cooled. This recipe makes a lot, by the way.

All told, they come in at about 140 cals and 14 carbs per oz., but an ounce is a pretty good size. They are so satisfying and delicious, and they're packed with antioxidants, fiber and protein.

26. Sure, but it's certainly not the only or healthiest source of protein.
Once can certainly repair and build muscle cells absent meat. Trust me. ;)

27. So, eat a quarter pound of turkey breast
First of all, a pound of red meat has more protein than he needs.

Secondly, one can get protein without ingesting all the other horrible things in red meat. (And don't get me wrong...I love red meat).

Eat some lean turkey breast and get on with your life.

One can alos get calcium from buttermilk. Doesn't make drinking a gallon a day a good idea.
