Kindle, Nook, or Sony Reader? Lotsa free stuff from... |
|
Project Gutenberg around that I've already downloaded, much of it as text files.
They all use PDF's and ebook formats, but how much of a pain in the ass is it to convert from formats they don't use?
(I'm leaning toward the Nook.)

Only had an issue once trying to convert .LIT (MS reader format) took some time to find a program to do it, and now I can't remember the name of the thing...
Everything else has been in pdf and ebook formats that have worked fine so I really have not had much trouble reading anything I wanted on it. The program I use the most is openoffice writer to convert text to pdf's
The only issue I have with my nook is now its $100 less than what I paid for it ;)

5. PDFs are no problem-- been using WordPerfect for years... |

to make PDF's for distribution, and now Open Office does it as well. Mildly annoying to have to convert simple stuff like text files, though, but good to know just about everything can be made to fit one way or another.
How's it work with WiFi? I've got plenty of hotspots, including here at home, so I suppose I don't need the b/g connection.
(And, yeah, the new price makes it VERY attractive.)

3. I played with a Nook, but chose the Kindle |

I didn't like the Nook's touch screen (they don't work well for me, and it eats up battery life), and the button placement was all wrong for the way I use it. When I hold it in my hand, the thumb rests naturally on the back page button, meaning I'd have to shift to next page. The Kindle's the other way around, so more natural and easier to use.
Lots of people like the Nook, though. It just wasn't right for me. I flove my Kindle.

I've had no format issues with either.
Gutenberg Project is awesome.
