They look like they are wearing smudged eye makeup. And they are smiling!

I didn't realize how small they are until I saw them at the San Diego Zoo.

And they look especially cute when they stand on two legs. I really miss the show Meerkat Manor. I loved watching the meerkat families going about their business. I saw them at a zoo a couple of times too. Just as cute in person.

4. I saw one in Hermanus.

People go to Hermanus, South Africa to watch whales from shore. I saw one scramble over a wall, then dive into a hedgerow.

It was so sad. She was defending her family. She was quite a meerkat: apparently the number of years she led her family was longer than most meerkats would survive doing that. I was also sad when Shakespeare and Mozart died; they were also favorites of mine.
