For those who made/ate turkey yesterday, how did your's turn out. |
|
Mine came out perfect this year. I didn't brine or baste frequently. I just put in a shallow baking dish at 350 degrees with some broth on the bottom and butter/spices on the skin and made an aluminum foil tent over the top.
Removed the tent for the last 45 minutes and it came out great!

I've been fighting something that seems like a cold..was hardly able to keep my eyes open..I barely ate..in the end, I had a few mouthfuls of soup, and went back to bed...I'll get around to cooking it sometime over the weekend..

2. My wonderful son-in-law tried to use his new toy, The "egg" smoker. |
|
The turkey was supposed to be smoked---and cooked. Well, that did not work. If I were him, I'd take that toy back to the store where he bought it. The turkey never seemed to cook. We had a wonderful vegetarian dinner with great desserts. I have to hand it to him for due diligence but that smoker gizmo was a disaster. Other than the fact that I have a urge today to go buy a turkey, it was a great day. It is rare that we can all get together so than part was fun.
Then there was the jerk who pulled a road rage incident with us and 2 other cars on the way home. Swerving in and out of us and 2 other cars, making obscene gestures, braking, signaling drivers to challenge him. It was scary and really stupid. Scared the pants off all of us.

5. I think I have finally figured it out |
|
save the huge ones for covered cooking when you just want a big pile of meat and don't need coherent fancy plate slices; do a smaller bird for these kinds of meals. the key is cooking it breast side down for the first half or so of the cooking time.
