Moon Over Washington:
<http://gadflyer.com/articles/?ArticleID=131 >

"befriended Richard Nixon in his darkest hour"

"he launched The Washington Times – "in response to Heaven’s direction,""

"Moon was telling guests at the Dirksen Senate Office Building that Hitler and Stalin, having cleaned up their acts, had, in a rare public statement from beyond the grave, called him "none other than humanity's Savior, Messiah, Returning Lord and True Parent.""

"But not long after it appeared on the Post's web site, the paper erased the quote."

"Moon's groups have taken home grant money from the Bush Administration, which has given his anti-sex missionaries $475,000 in Abstinence-Only dollars to bring Moon's crusade against "free sex" to both black New Jersey high-schoolers and native Africans. The Centers for Disease Control briefly announced that another Moon foundation was the only group qualified to receive another, no-bid grant for HIV education in Africa. Only after a competitor raised objections did the CDC cancel the grant program entirely. Meanwhile, one of Moon's top political movers, David Caprara, has been appointed by George W. Bush to head AmeriCorps VISTA; and another former church VIP, Josette Shiner, was given a senior trade position."

"In the early stages of the Reagan Revolution that embraced the Washington Times and Moon's anti-Communist movement, it was embarrassing to be caught at a Moon event. Until George H.W. Bush appeared with Moon in 1996, thanking him for a newspaper that "brings sanity to Washington," famous guests often spoke at front groups that concealed ties to the Unification Church."

The Rev. Moon Honored at Hill Reception: (happened Mar. 23 this year!)

<http://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/wp-dyn/A61932-2004Jun... >

"Moon declared himself the Messiah and said his teachings have helped Hitler and Stalin be "reborn as new persons.""

"Some Republicans who attended the event, including Rep. Roscoe G. Bartlett (Md.), said they did so mainly to salute the Washington Times, a conservative-leaning newspaper owned by Moon's organization."

Sun Myung Moon Crowned Messiah By Congressmen:

Honor for the peacemakers (from the Washington Times):

<http://www.washingtontimes.com/national/20040324-121200... >

(doesn't mention Moon calling himself the Messiah)

From Moon's web site - Statement on the March 23rd, 2004 "Crown of Peace" Program:

<http://www.iifwp.org/programs/IIPC/reports/forging_path... >

"He reports testimonies from the spirit world that he is "none other than humanity's savior, messiah, returning Lord and True Parent.""

Bringing this over from Skinner's Sinclair thread. (Thanks to new DUer, mcg.)

I have no idea what in the world this could mean.
What say you?

1. aha ...
Viewers know Hyman better as the man fronting "The Point," a nightly series of caustic, right-leaning commentaries that Sinclair's 62 stations are also required to air (in one, he urged the government to "crack down on illegal aliens before they vote to take away your rights"; in another, he searched Iraq for all the good news mainstream the media weren't reporting).

It may be true that Stolen Honor, a documentary assembled by journalist Carlton Sherwood, is a newsworthy look at the impact of Kerry's antiwar statements. Even if Sherwood, a decorated Vietnam veteran who later won a Pulitzer Prize among a team of reporters at Gannett News Service, also has faced allegations he allowed the Unification Church's founder, the Rev. Sun Myung Moon, to unduly influence a book he wrote on Moon's legal troubles after working at his conservative newspaper, the Washington Times.

3. I wondered if there was a Moonie link to Sinclair. This is very
disturbing. It appears the Moonies are gaining influence with the radical right in this country. This must be exposed. These guys are absolute nut cases.

4. Unification Church and Rev. Sun Myung Moon
Here is everything I ever wanted to know about the "Moonies". They have a High School in Kona on the Big Island where I live. I am going to try to find out more. A lot of Marshalese in my community and they have apparently been targeted by the Moonies for "conversion".

5. I wonder why the evangelical base is silent
I'm evangelical in my theology and I've always understood Moon's group to be a very dangerous cult. I wonder why more evangelicals aren't aware of this link...but then again, eyebrows were pretty much only raised in apologetics and theology-student circles when Falwell buddied up to Moon...the average rank and file churchgoer didn't hardly bat an eye. Oh well...take your Soma, eat your Soylent Green, shut up and be happy...the comfort you've demanded is now mandatory, etc. <barf>
