Protecting Against Home Invasions
With more than 8,000 home invasions happening every day here in the United States, we’d like to present some tips on what you can do to not only protect yourself and your family, but how to fortify your home to better resist becoming a victim.

Great advice on securing your home and the role a firearm plays in it.

1. Some pretty good advice in this article.
Edited on Mon Oct-10-11 01:49 AM by AtheistCrusader
Covers every basic measure I can think of.

Edit: Correction, some stupid shit:

"Lock your gates using a padlock at the least and leave some nice surprises on top of the fence if they think about scaling it."

Depending on what state you are in, 'nice surprises' can be construed as man traps, and get your ass locked up. So, maybe smeared dogshit is ok, but razor blades or nails might be a very bad idea.

2. I have mesquite trees with some EVIL 2" thorns on the branches.
Seems like every time I trim them, I never get around to removing a layer of branches from the ground inside the property line fence. I hope nobody decides to jump the fence in the dark - they could injure themselves! :)

4. Kudos for this post. A poor man's burglar bars...
consist of a few Spanish dagger plants, embedded below especially inviting windows: They stick you going in, they stick you pulling out.

5. Door Devil
Found this on the site. For $80,/door you can make it almost impossible to kick in a door. Looks pretty easy to install for any DIY person. I think I'll order one to try it.

7. Securing the home is the first, and best defense.
It is much cheaper to stop the intruder from getting in than it is to take a chance on a shoot-out if he gets in. Sometimes the good guy lose. Even if you win, there will be a huge mess to clean up, time used up for the police investigation, possible PTSD for yourself and your family, a reputation as a blood-thirsty killer by folks who won't understand, and possible retaliation by the dead/wounded thugs relatives and gang members.

Forgive me, but what in the fuck is this?

Anyhow, looks like there's only one way to deal with the situation:

A criminal that breaks into a residence at night is expecting a confrontation of some kind. Hopefully it will be short lived when you shoot them dead, ... .

Do some people not realize that touting sites like this just confirms the impression that some other people have of them? :eyes:

Here's an article that looks worth reading, though:

"SAFETY WARNING! Worn Leather Holsters Can Cause Accidental Discharges!"

9. Hopefully it will be short lived when you shoot them dead....now that's funny.
I read over several of their articles but somehow missed that nugget.

Good news is I did bookmark it and post it to facebook, bad news is I only received 18 likes. :(
