Shooting Guns For Toys For Tots
http://www.kmvt.com/news/local/Shooting-Guns-For-Toys-For-Tots-134560478.html">Local news in Twin Falls Idaho reports on http://mikeb302000.blogspot.com/2011/11/arizona-gun-club-offers-santa-with-gun.html">more mingling of children and Christmas with guns and shooting sports. My objection is that the use of guns, for any reason whatever, is inherently violent. That's at best. Often it involves fantasies of killing animals or people. To mix this with the most wholesome activities like procuring toys for kids, is an abomination. Well, perhaps abomination is too strong, how about a travesty? However you call it, it's sick.

What's your opinion? Please leave a comment.

I'm hungry. Maybe I should go start a thread. I'll work in how guns make me feel, while I make a goddamn sandwich.

8. Making a turkey sandwich,,
for any reason whatever, is inherently violent. It most likely involves fantasies of shooting a turkey, and several small
children, while the are shopping with their defenseless parents at Toys-r-us.

MY GoD....... What an abomination you are, or maybe you're just a travesty,,, well either way you, and your turkey sandwich are just plain

SICK....

2. Are they shooting the guns AT the Toys For Tots?
Look, I don't give a shit either way, but people DO realize that Toys For Tots is a creation of the United States Marine Corps Reserve, yes?

And the Marines are not best known for their skill in flower arranging.

So maybe the whole guns and toys thing isn't too much of a stretch...

Just saying.

involved in the wholesome activity of collecting toys for kids. That would really be sick...

(But no - there is nothing wrong with using the safe, fun, family activity of target shooting to promote an admirable program like Toys for Tots.)

15. I my opinion I think the turkey shoot was to raise funds for a worthwhile cause ...
And I also do not believe that there is anything inherently violent about a turkey shoot.

At one time in history you might have had a point.

A "turkey shoot" is also a shooting contest where frozen turkeys are awarded as prizes. The shoot is most commonly held, using shotguns aimed at paper targets about 25-35 yards away. Original turkey shoots, however, dating at least to the time of James Fenimore Cooper, were contests in which live turkeys were tied down in a pen and shot from 25-35 yards.<1> If the turkey died, the shooter received it as a prize. This gave rise to the military term (see below). Today, turkey shoots are still popular in rural America. The winner is chosen according to which target has a shot closest to its center cross-mark. This removes almost all skill from the contest, and allows every shooter an equal chance.

19. My brother runs a "turkey shoot" in WV and one in NC
two weekends a month...they haven't shot for meat for 20 years. The shooters these days lay out 500 bucks for 10 rounds. Most will shoot two cards in each match, typical match will pay back 1200 bucks depending on the number of shooters (sometimes as low as 25 x 2, to a high of 75 x 2)

These guys carry in 3000+ dollar custom made shotguns topped with 1000+ scopes.

It's not a cheap sport by any means.

17. Are you against Toys for Tots now, Mike?
I'm not sure how you could possibly be up in arms about this.

The Twin Falls Rod & Gun Club, which has been in existence since 1928, is sponsoring a Turkey Shoot.

Despite the name, no turkeys are shot at the turkey shoot. It is a trapshooting contest, where people shoot clay pidgeons with shotguns. It is target shooting.

The Twin Falls Rod & Gun Club is hosting their Turkey Shoot to raise money to make a money donation to Toys for Tots, to buy toys. Note that the Twin Falls Rod & Gun Club is not buying the toys, they are donating money to TFT so they can buy their own toys.

It's hard to see how something like this is an "abomination" or a "travesty".

People are paying money to shoot targets competitively and the proceeds are going to Toys for Tots.

Christ Almighty, Mike. Are you against competitive target shooting, too?

For Mike, "believing is seeing", hence the bloviation.

I must admit that I find watching him channel Mary Hanchett Hunt to be somewhat amusing. Perhaps he could rename his blog to "Scientific Disarmament Instruction"...

associated with guns, including something as simple as a childs toy. You are probably opposed to squirt guns and and nerf guns.

An abomination would be all of your blind links to your blog, the second link you posted. If you want people to read your shit, just post it like everyone else, otherwise it is just shit.

Unrec for the usual crap.

I need to give myself a .22 for range practice to enhance my deer-rifle practice. All I have now is a 1905-made '03 .22 Winchester which uses nearly-obsolete ammunition (.22 WAR). Hoping to find a better grade match-grade which someone tired of.

30. A Marlin 39A in .22 is a great practice rifle
It's a scaled down version of the lever action 336 that comes in 30-30. All steel and walnut, no plastic parts.

The 39A shoots shorts, long and long rifle, so practice with it is really cheap. Pre-drilled and tapped for a scope or Williams peep sight.

I just picked a used one (1956) up for $200 in my local shop.

You want a higher-cap semi for that.

Hornady has the right idea, but they don't have any in .22. .223 is okay if your plucking them off at 200 yards but it's damn expensive. Besides, if they are 100+ yards out, just be quiet.

Besides, even with my ARs and Garands, at heart I'm still a fan of Cowboy related stuff.

I hope this club raises a ton of money for Toys for Tots, if for no other reason just to piss off some people living in the original home of true fascism.

"This year marked the 16th annual, KMVT Christmas for Kids – Toys for Tots turkey shoot.

Held every year at the Twin Falls Gun Club.

This year, the event featured not only target practice for some generous gun nuts.

But also, the event gave another great opportunity to help increase our stockpile of un–use and un–wrapped toys for some needy kids this Christmas.
This is a big benefit for us because we can now go out and fill the holes where we need toys. So, this money that is being raised today will go out and buy toys for the blanks that we are missing on our age groups." Said Paul Johnson – KMVT’S Toys for Tots.
...
Modern Woodsmen, out of Twin Falls, has pledged to double whatever Toys for Tots comes to as a total."

Raising money to buy toys for unfortunate kids...and you call it "sick"??

Maybe your anti-gun obsession has made you crazy. Starting to pity your son that he'll have to deal with such irrational nastiness growing up.

Toys For Tots is a US MARINE CORPS charity..of coarse you had no clue this before your oral BM. I am quite sure the US MARINE CORPS is very appreciative of the donations raised by this CHARITY event. Idiotic opinions of those who don't participate on this site and are clueless are the only things which are abomination, travesty, or sick. Care to share what you have donated to Toys for Tots mike? I will take silence as, just what I suspect, not one thin dime.

42. Nice straw man you have there.
Ascinine statement:
"...the use of guns, for any reason whatever, is inherently violent."

What over reach! Target shooters strive to shoot the smallest group possible, and place it where they want it on paper. Nothing more, nothing less. An athletic pursuit, a martial art, besides being something that only free people can choose to do- that's it.

You are inside of every target shooter's head and know their secret mental agenda for a fact? Absurd generalization. Stunning bigotry. Besides intolerant, prejudiced, presumptive.

Pens and paper have been used to sign death warrants. Does that mean that every person who writes on paper really would rather be killing people?

Do you have any opinions formulated outside of bigotry toward our motivations? They'd be far more interesting to read than personal propaganda.
