To Kerry & Edwards Supporters:
I am supporting Clark, however I am researching the Senators as they are moving up. I will support either Kerry or Edwards if chosen as nominee; I like both of them.

I have been to their sites & cannot find answers to 2 questions:

Where do they stand on stem cell research?
What is their position on medical marijuana?

Thanks!

5. I agree
Kerry will not win southern states against Bush. With Edwards there is a chance.

Edwards beat an incumbent Republican in NC to get his Senate seat. He knows how to do it.

8. Great ticket
"Edwards/Gephardt"

Just put Gep on the road in the industrial heartland and let him give his stump speech regarding manufacturing jobs and it's a Dem win ---- great ticket!

9. I don't see Gephardt taking a VP ticket
with Edwards. Was he out of law school when Gep was running for Pres in the 80's? I don't mean that as a bash on Edwards (I like him) I am just saying it would almost feel like a retiring senior statesman playing second fiddle to the up and coming new star.

I think Gep would jump at the chance. I don't think the age difference is that big a deal. John Edwards LOOKS young, but if elected, he would be 51 at inauguration (Clinton was 46) Gep is just 62. Edwards graduated law school in 1977 -- eleven years before Gep's first run in 1988. I wouldn't rule it out. Gephardt, with the experience on the Hill would be great balance.

4. Kerry, Good on both
He has talked about stem cell research many times and is appalled that we aren't going forward with it. This is part of his criticism on Bush being anti-science.

And on medical marijuana, he has said that his instincts are to allow it. He would put a moratorium on arrests. But that it does have to go through the process just like any other medication. And on marijuana in general, he's said he sees it like they did when he was a prosecutor. Going after the truly big dealers is more important than picking up street users. I think he'd go a long way to fix our drug laws and get the focus where it belongs. Treatment for users and jail for the the dangerous criminal dealers.

6. Thanks for your reply
That's pretty much the same as Clark, & sounds good to me.

The stem cell issue has me really irate. Under Bush, science takes a backseat to religion.

11. From the candidates mouths on Stem Cell

Sen. John Edwards

Reply to CAMR request to explain position on stem cell research and somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT) technology

11/05/2003 from: Presidential Candidates Forum on Women's Issues Part 2

Location: Manchester, NH

Question: Would you each expand stem cell research?

EDWARDS: “The answer is yes, absolutely. We should not use ideological guidelines to determine the research, the important groundbreaking research, that can be done, that can affect the lives of not only families here in America, but families all over the world, so the answer is very simple. Yes.”

Sen. John Kerry

In mid-July 2001, a bipartisan group of 61 senators sent letters urging Bush to allow federal funding. One letter was written by Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) and signed by 59 other senators. The other, written by Sen. Arlen Specter (R-Pa.), was signed by 13 Republicans. Some senators signed both letters.

RE: Bush’s announcement in August 2001 to limit funding for stem cell research to previously existing lines:

“Senator John Kerry, Democrat of Massachusetts and a supporter of full federal financing (of stem cell research , said of Mr. Bush's announcement: "Compassionate conservatism could have meant lifesaving treatments for those suffering from Parkinson's and Alzheimer's disease; instead it appears to be using words of compassion to mask efforts to keep a campaign promise to conservatives." Mr. Kerry added: "If, as he says, the president believes that stem cell research may have lifesaving potential for millions, he should give scientists the tools to explore it rather than have the government impose burdensome restrictions which close the door to medical advances."

12. Granite Staters for Medical Marijuana
Gave Edwards an 'F', and gave Kerry an 'A-'. Take that for what it's worth.

I'm obviously an Edwards fan, but this isn't an issue whatsoever to me. I know it is to some.

This is the Granite Staters for Medical Marijuana Candidate Ranking, and not a ranking of any form or fashion about the candidates on any other issues.
