Conservative Blog Spreads Rumors that Reid May Step Down as Min Leader
Senator Joseph Biden (D-DE) failed today to address rumors that Nevada Senator Harry Reid will step down next month as Senate Minority Leader. Reid has been stung by revelations that his political action committee (PAC) accepted more than $60,000 in contributions from Indian tribes linked to convicted lobbyist Jack Abramoff. Appearing on CNN's Late Edition, Biden avoided discussing either the Reid situation or any upcoming changes in Senate Democratic leadership.

Democratic National Committee chairman Howard Dean, appearing on Fox News Sunday, made no announcements concerning Reid's status, but did comment on the growing controversy.

Moderator Chris Wallace asked Dean, "if we find that there were some Democrats who wrote letters on behalf of some of the Indian tribes that Abramoff represented, then what do you say, sir?"

Without mentioning Reid by name, Dean replied, "That's a big problem. And those Democrats are in trouble. And they should be in trouble."

I haven't heard any chatter like this.

Is this just BS coming from a RW blog, or has anyone else heard anything similar?

3. That would be a blessing
The man's been a disaster as minority leader. Put someone in like Durbin who's willing to put up a fight instead of just flapping his lips.

9. the man stopped the Seante and demanded that the ......
..... the promise to look into the pre war faulty intel (bull shit & lies) be kept.
He did this as minority leader by a very smart parliamentary procedure.

sorry he can't be everything for everybody but EYES ON THE PRIZE ....

14. And has the "promise" been kept? LOL

You can't make deals like with Republicans. They won't keep them. Letting Owens Brown & Pryor on the bench for life- after threatening to shut down the Senate- should have taught him that.

Even if they do "investigate"- it'll be nothing but a whitewash. Bottom line is that he's lost every single battle- and usually without even the pretense of a fight. Every single nominee- no matter how extreme or incompetant- every significant piece of legislation no matter how egregious. Hell, he even crossed over and voted with the Republicans on the bankruptcy bill!

Through his lack of leadership and inability to control members of his own party, he's compiled the worst record ever for a minority leader. An "O" fer. Some prize.

Look at what Bob Dole did in 93-95, with 41 senators....

Personally, I had hoped that he might gracefully leave for health reasons. It's got to be embarrassing at this point.

20. Sen. Roberts has to mid Feb.
But if you are worried about it call Sen. Reid's office and ask if you can speak to
a staff person as to "it's" status .......

The move he made was a good one.

Edited on Sun Jan-29-06 05:45 PM by blm
ABRAMOFF who was actually running a SCAM on the tribes.

Tribe money wasn't DIRTY until Abramoff used it to bribe his pet Republicans.

Reid and Dems historically were always working to help tribes. Abramoff was running a SCAM on tribes.

Gee, tritsofme, ANOTHER antiDem post from you....surprise, surprise. If it's not anti-filibuster, it's anti-Dem or anti-Kerry.

his constitutents ? That Abramoff represented them has nothing to do with it. Abramoff ripped them off, just as he ripped everyone off.

I don't understand this. Did Dean really say this, or is this being taken out of context ?

Edited on Sun Jan-29-06 05:49 PM by Danieljay
This is more BS Right Wing spin.

"accepted more than $60,000 in contributions from Indian tribes linked to convicted lobbyist Jack Abramoff" --NOT FROM ABRAMOFF-- Abromoff money BOUGHT legislation and favors. apples and oranges, two different issues.

19. They wish!
It is their wet dream, imo. Reid has almost totally paralyzed bush's second term agenda: Social Security, the expansion of the Patriot Act, etc.

I love it when they telegraph who and what they are most afraid of as they are doing with this 'rumor' and with the frenzied attack on Kerry. It means Reid and Kerry are being effective and that scares the crap out of them.

21. This is ridiculous
Goddammit, frustrating as hell. Writing a letter for a tribe you have always advocated for is NOT a problem and nobody should be in trouble for it. I don't know who's idea it was to take this route, but it might be informative to recall which Democrats returned money and which didn't.

Yeah, didja notice they also "avoided discussing" and "failed to address" if the Seahawks' run-oriented offense will overcome the Steelers' 3-4 front and blitz schemes? Why are they ducking the question everyone wants to know....WILL SHAUN ALEXANDER HAVE ROOM TO RUN ON SUPER BOWL SUNDAY?

:sarcasm:
