Here is why, in a nutshell, I am voting for Mr. Obama... |
|
Edited on Tue Feb-12-08 07:15 AM by poli speak
i'm a woman, i've been looking for excuses to vote for her {Hillary Clinton] for months. Unfortunately, I cant get over the time she stood up on the Senate floor and asked Senator Byrd for some of his allotted speaking time to talk about whether or not to let George Bush have unilateral, unprecedented authority to proclaim a "war." Whatever you think about the Senator from West Virginia, it was clear that he tho't he had her "coming around" to his way of thinking.
She summarily took up the major rest of his speaking time, divided it btwn Joe Biden and herself, and then went on to speak in favor of the resolution Byrd was opposing. I think that's when, in shock, I could no longer be a CSPAN junkie. It was just too painful to take anymore. She is an opportunist and a liar and I just cant take it anymore.
amd furthermore, you can take all the quantitave anaylsis u want, but it dont matter no more. we're talking quality, sorry sincerely, and no disrepect intended. I am just FED UP.

17. I'm just learning about |
|
hilary taking Senator Byrd's time away from him for her Orwellian speech as to why she voted for the IWR. I was already sick and tired of calling her office and emailing with pleas of not voting for the IWR. She wouldn't listen to us in New York because she had bigger plans than to be our senator. And, that's exactly what we thought after her vote.

20. I haven't even had the energy to go back and search the CSPAN archives, |
|
nor I am in the habit of going "negative." After her feeble attempts to marginalize her opponent, I still didn't have the energy, but now I am upset. There is just so much old-time politics bullshit out there, and I guess how I'm thinking at the moment, is that if there is any reason to support Obama, it's because he's talking true relief: belief. action. faith. We have got to overcome bullshit.

4. I remember reading somewhere |
|
That she had gotten Byrd to give her a big block of speaking time, and left none for Edwards. I could swear I remember reading that he arrived to speak and she said something along the lines of "just stand there and look pretty." Like I said, I don't have any evidence...I think it might be in a book I read, and I will try to dig up the source.

7. Found a reference for that - It appeared in Newsweek - HRC did tell Edwards to just look pretty! |
|
When she wanted prime time - and lots of it - to explain in a lengthy floor speech why she was backing Bush on Iraq, Clinton asked Byrd to give her a chunk of his time. He happily agreed. When the hard-charging and Hollywood-handsome Sen. John Edwards rushed to the floor at the last minute and asked to speak, Democratic leaders had no time left to give him. Clinton couldn't restrain a triumphant grin at the plight of a clear rival - in fact, one who is seeking the 2004 nomination. She spoke to him in a near shout - loud enough for the galleries to hear. "Just stand there and look pretty, John" she said.

************* The Newsweek Article is too old for me to pull up but I am sure the excerpt is correct. How sexist of her to say that? And SHE is going with her hat in her hand to John Edwards to seek his votes! Wow!!!! Thanks for bringing this up!! :wow:

During the October 2002 vote on the IWR or during the Feb 2003 vote on the Byrd resolution to give the inspectors more time? If she voted against the Byrd resolution then she cannot use the excuse that "who knew that Bush would abuse his authority from the IWR?" because it was pretty dang obvious in Feb. that we were on the brink of war.

27. I was pretty dang obvious to me in December of 2002 that we were going to war... |
|
...I was deployed on the Carl Vinson (CVN-70) and immediately went to 7th Fleet AOR to take the place of the Kitty Hawk Strike Group. They left for the 5th Fleet AOR in early Jan. I'm convinced the decision was made to go to war with Iraq sometime late summer or early fall.

6. if Hillary did not support the war initially she would have won this nomination hands down |
|
but thats the problem for politicians Going with the popular vote, and it can go back and bite them later.
and thats why I believe in standing for your own princibles and values, thats why I believe "WE NEED TO TELL PEOPLE WHAT THEY NEED TO HEAR, NOT WHAT THEY WANT TO HEAR"
and thats why I believe in OBAMA

them to even THINK about going over there.
And what about all the Iraqui moms that are losing sons every day.
It's disgusting, and revolting, and I am, still, pissed off, and FED UP.

15. My nephew was accepted into the Army even though he had a bad asthma condition - |
|
they more or less just turned a blind eye. He made it through basic training without his ventilator (which he used to do three times a day, even carrying it with him on boy scout trips). Then while waiting to be deployed to Afghanistan he went jogging one day in July and had an attack and died. He knew the risks and it was his fondest dream to be in the Army (he and his father had done French and Indian War reenactments since he was a small child), but, still, but for the need for cannon fodder they never would have let him join up.

unequivocally that it was an environmentally-induced condition.
If u talk to parents in Oberlin, Ohio, they will tell u that half the kids growing up now have asthma.
What do we do?
whole 'nother topic, so sorry.

19. Heraldsqure, I'm so sorry for you family's loss. |
|
Trrops don't just die from combat. Wars create a wide range of circumstances and risks that we ask our young people to expose themselves too. I know it's little to no concilation for you that he died doing something he dreamed of, that in being willing to risk it all for us, he served us all, even when the war itself was so terribly wrong.
I hope we can stop this pointless occupation and keep Bush from starting new mischief before his term runs out. But you have my sympathies and you late nephew has my eternal gratitude. There must've been a greatness in him to love his country so. I hope we can all honor that by saving the lives of future enlistees.

21. I couldn't agree more |
|
IWR did it for me, as well.
The "if I'd known then what I know now" excuse is absurd vis-a-vis Robert Byrd's powerful speech with cautionary words to his colleagues about the hubris of the administration, the lack of evidence, the abrogation of Congressional responsibility and yes, the rush to war.
He spelled out so eloquently what such a hasty vote, prior to midterm elections, would result in and sadly, his words were prophetic!
