15. My nephew was accepted into the Army even though he had a bad asthma condition -
they more or less just turned a blind eye. He made it through basic training without his ventilator (which he used to do three times a day, even carrying it with him on boy scout trips). Then while waiting to be deployed to Afghanistan he went jogging one day in July and had an attack and died. He knew the risks and it was his fondest dream to be in the Army (he and his father had done French and Indian War reenactments since he was a small child), but, still, but for the need for cannon fodder they never would have let him join up.
