Seriously, is John McCain supposed to be some sort of serious threat to the Dem nominee? |
|
Or is it simply the M$M using him as storyline bait. All they have to do is show a few commercials with McCain's face morphing into Bush's even better keep showing the huggy-bear photo of McCain with his arms around the jerk as he gives him a smooch. For real, John BOMB-BOMB McCain is said to be ahead of some silly ass poll? It's really funny as sh*t. Chelsea would kick McCain's ass!

1. People have a fondness for McCain - in registering people to vote for our primary... |
|
I've run into lots of McCain supporters ~ they don't care about recent comments, or even the fact that he knows nothing about the economy; they think of him as a war hero and a maverick.
It won't be as easy as it should be.

Don't forget: the media in the USA are bought and owned by the Republicans, and there are about 45% of the American electorate who will vote Republican if the ticket consists of Charles Manson and Jeffery Dahmer. Of those 80% you read about that don't support Bush, remember that at least a third of them would still vote for him again if he were able to run. No Democrat will have a free ride in the fall. I like our chances, but the election will have to be earned. If we don't contribute, work, or whatever it is we can do, then the odds tilt rightward. They are the British and we are the settlers. We'll only win by conviction and ingenuity. All they have to is stand there and look smug. No Democrat has been handed the White House on a silver platter since 1964. This year will be no different.

6. Do not underestimate McCain |
|
If the Dem nominee was already definite, he wouldn't stand a chance. But the longer they go without a nominee, McLame starts looking good, especially to people who really don't read up on the news or know much in the way of details (which I think is a good percentage of the population). And he always get a free pass from the press. Lobbyist problem? Broke campaign finance laws? 100 more years of Iraq? No problem. He invites the reporters to barbecues and they don't write about anything negative.

7. Nationwide polls currently show him beating both Democratic candidates |
|
I think a lot of people here are under the assumption that just because the economy is in the toilet and the war is so unpopular that this election will be a cake walk for the Dems. It won't be. All the more reason Hillary needs to get out now of the race now before she inflicts any more damage on Obama's chance of winning and let us attack the real enemy: the GOP.

9. In 1984, Reagan's Alzheimer's was in full bloom... |
|
and people still had not forgotten the severe recession earlier in his term. It should have been easy to beat him, but we lost 49 states instead.
And in 1988 we were up against the first George Bush. He was widely considered a wimp and a whiner. Nobody thought he would win, and in fact Dukakis, probably the second most absurd major party candidate of the past half-century, was well ahead of Bush until relatively late in the campaign. Oh well, we lost that one, too.
And then there's 2000 and 2004. There has surely not been a more manifestly unqualified candidate in history, and between that and the desertion and the cocaine and the disastrous wars, one would think he would have lost, but no.
Do you see a pattern here?

McCain can't defeat Obama or Hillary. Y'all just give it up. Everyone know he doesn't have a chance this election cycle. I am sure the RNC is gearing up for 2012. This stuff about Obama this, Obama that, Hillary this, Hillary that is just ignorant. The skeletons in McCain's closet wont hold water. In addition it appears McCain has early signs of Alzheimer's. So to say McCain will win the GE is just showing your ignorance and lack of critical thinking. Now, talk among-st yourselves.

good grief, that some of you don't see it that is even more serious. If the delegates don't see it there goes another election.

26. McCain is a serious threat at this point. The current polls show |
|
him winning in many of the head to head contests with either of our candidates. He might have been way back in the Republican pack for a while, but now that he is the nominee, you can bet that the Republicans will stand behind now. We certainly can't underestimate him. http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2008/president/national.html

27. I really think the GOP was setting up McCain to take a fall |
|
Edited on Mon Mar-24-08 11:08 AM by TragedyandHope
He's never been the golden boy of the party. I think they let him run because they figured they would lose this November and they didn't want to sacrifice anyone they cared about. They had written off this election and were positioning for 2012, holding their real candidates in reserve.
But then, they saw the train wreck happening in the Democratic party and thought, "hey, maybe we can will this after all." So, now you see the "cross-over" voters in our primaries, the negativity bubbling up on both sides and the MSM fanning the flames, egging the candidates on like bloodthirsty spectators at gladiator arena. It would be terribly ironic to be stuck with their sacrificial lamb as president President, but they seem to have him all wired up to be the perfect Bush replacement puppet. It might work out for them after all.
It will be a tragedy if we can't bring our party back together and soundly defeat McCain in November.
