not good news from Colorado
slight lead for Dems in early voting

DENVER — Slightly more Democrats than Republicans have voted in Colorado, either by mail or at early-voting polling places. State officials said Friday that 219,000 Democrats have cast their ballots, compared with 215,000 Republicans and 131,000 unaffiliated voters. Those totals represent 20.8 percent of registered Democrats, 20.2 percent of registered Republicans and 12.2 percent of unaffiliated voters.

About 570,000 Coloradans total, including those registered with minor parties, have voted, a turnout of 17.7 percent. When "inactive voters" — who didn't vote in 2006 and didn't respond to a letter from county officials — are subtracted, turnout is Democrats 24.6 percent, Republicans 24.4 percent, -snip-

1. Uh, how is this not good news? I don't follow.
You want McCain to have a lead in Colorado?

3. I think they mean it's not good news, but they wouldn't call it bad.
I'm not worried about Colorado. McCain has abandoned it.

13. It appears that so far, the repuke new voter purge has worked
although on the bright side, historicall, repukes outnumber Democrats in Colorado.

Prior to this election season, Independents had taken the lead from both extra-constitutional corporate parties.

From the hullabaloo about voter registration efforts, I would have expected a much larger lead by Democratic voters in early voting.

17. Seeing as how the Democrats just nabbed the lead over Repubs. in the state
I don't see any evidence of a voter purge or anything unusual in those numbers. I think they're pretty reflective of reality.

7. here are the latest numbers
Dem 38.6%
Rep 37.9%
No/Oth 23.5%

Who do you think is going to win the 'Independent' vote?

BTW it is 83% Absentee ballots and that typically heavily favors Republicans - this is good news

8. Dems will be voting Obama, and many many Repubs will be too.
So just looking at turnout by Party doesn't tell me much.

states except Iowa in 2004. Looks good to me.

11. Considering
that Colorado is a state that is about 50-50 a slight lead indicates that things are going well. Bush won in Colorado by 53% Kerry got 46%

It will be close, no doubt - there are a lot of lunkheads there:)

18. DEBBIE DOWNER ALERT!!!!
Yes, as stated above, I believe the independents are riding a wave to the Obama shore. These numbers looking good to me.

Plus, let's not forget, there are a sizeable number of registered Republicans who are going to vote Obama.

19. Combine this with the latest Rocky Mountain News Poll
and I estimate a lead for Obama of approximately 50,000 votes*. This is an 8-9% margin, and that is less than what the RMN poll shows statewide.

And that is without factoring a higher number of Republican cross-overs (highly likely).

* Obama is leading better than 2:1 (58 to 27) among Independents in the RMN poll. So of 131,000 Independent voters, Obama is likely to have an edge of at least 44,000 votes. Then add the 4,000 extra Democrats and get 48,000. Round up to 50,000.

20. That's good news. We have a large independent demographic.
And they're going Obama in large numbers. Our republicans are normally VERY active, VERY vocal. If the dems are beating them even slightly it looks GREAT for us.

22. Plus, a lot of Republicans out there
appear to be planning to vote for Obama, so just giving the numbers by party affiliation is not very useful.

Besides, aren't there states that don't require party registration at all?

23. If this includes absentee (which it does) then it's GREAT NEWS for us.
Usually Republicans take a big lead because of absentee voting.

This year, the Dems have caught up and are poised to pass them.

Thanks for sharing!

24. This is being posted at RW sites as a 'big win' for Repukes
O.K., tho Dems aren't whipping repukes by 2 to 1 margins like in some other states. But if you take a look at detailed polling you would see that Obama is holding the higher percentage of Dems as compared to Mc*#(% holding repukes. So in a straight up race Obama should win. Then you throw in the Indies who are stronger for Obama, and you have some pretty damn good numbers.

If you are getting blown out elsewhere and are happy about losing a closer one I guess it is good news for repukes. Obama pickes up all the EVs if he wins by 1 or 20.
