Classy article by a Republican
amazing, isn't it?

"And then he spoke. I listened to every word he said, taking in its meaning. As he went on, a smile appeared across my face. It was going to be okay. This man wasn't speaking to his supporters, he was speaking to everybody. He is everybody's President now. He is my President now. And while I might disagree on some important ideas that he has for our country, I know that if he makes a mistake, we will let him know. If the majority disagrees, they will show it. And yes, I think he will listen..."

1. This article should be required reading for all freepers.
And yes, failing to give Obama a chance, complaining before he even begins, and refusing to listen to his ideas on their face does divide us. Don't dismiss what I'm saying as idealistic. The truth is that the only thing stopping us from uniting is our attitude - our own pride, bitterness, and close-mindedness.

4. To be fair, I'm not sure i would have given McCain a chance
At least not right away. I would have been too bitter and too partisan and found myself wanting him to fail. So as much as I can't understand how anyone could not be rooting for Obama's presidency to be a success I know that I would see it a lot differently if McCain had won. But I've been burned before...after 9/11, I gave Bush a chance, and I bought into the spirit of "rally around the commander in chief" for longer than I should have, and I am ashamed of that to this day. It wasn't until the summer of 2002 when I interned in Congress and realized how much the Republicans were screwing things up that I woke up and realized that Bush and the Repukes were using the post-9/11 environment to do all these horrible things and I was falling for it.

the Constitutional crisis over an immaterial fellatio fib. Twill be innerestin to watch 'em reconstitute themselves.

7. CNBC anchors
It's been really interesting watching the CNBC anchors over the last few weeks. *Most* of them were pretty obviously for McCain, some hiding it more than others. The ones for Obama really hid it, LOL.

Starting about a week ago, when an Obama victory seemed almost inevitable, they started almost rallying behind him. At this point, the economy is in the tanker so much, they are almost pleading with him to do something now. It really is as if they are putting their "hope" in Obama. They all disagree on what needs to be done, though.

About the only reservation they have is that they don't want the pendulum of deregulation to swing back too far the other way. I would say that there is no "danger" of THAT when he has people like Rubin on his team.

9. This is what happens when clear victories are won in Presidential races
If McCain had won with 6% of the vote, I would be sad,I would vehemently oppose his views on most things, but I would also give him a chance. That's what the Bush crowd never got. If you steal elections, or use the supreme court to your advantage to win elections, you get none of that cross over appeal.

10. Agreed.
Unlike Bush, Obama won a clear and convincing victory, and hopefully that makes it easier for Republicans to accept. Some of the right wing commentators on TV even seem to accept that they lost and maybe even deserved to lose.
